Tournaments
Tournaments occur outside of weekly practices and match nights. Wrestlers can choose to participate in as many tournaments as they would like throughout the season. Tournaments are classified as Novice or Open and typically take place on the weekend. While tournaments do require a certain amount of travel, they are almost all day trips for the wrestler and their family. Signups for tournaments are typically handled through through Pennsylvania Youth Wrestling and have different entry fees depending on the tournament.
Mars Youth Wrestling has a presence at many of the local tournaments through either our wrestlers and / or our coaches. We will update parents and wrestlers of upcoming opportunities, but please feel free to ask around (here or on one of our social channels) if other wrestlers and families are planning to attend a tournament. Hanging out and cheering for each other at these events is half the fun!
Road Warrior Tournament Series
Along with Shaler, Fox Chapel, Hampton, North Hills, North Allegheny, and Avonworth; Mars Youth Wrestling is part of the North Hills Wrestling League (NHWL). During the year, many of these schools will host a NHWL-only tournament, the Road Warrior Series, that we encourage our Novice and Open wrestlers to attend. At the end of the year we will also participate in a league tournament called the Road Warriors Classic, hosted by one of our league partners. For each event, our wrestlers are able to earn points towards our Mars Team Score and their own Individual Road Warrior Score. These scores are based on their Place Won for each event, and how many wrestlers were in each weight division.
There will be a Road Warrior Team Championship up for grabs as well as awards for the Top 4 and Top 25 Wrestlers in each weight division. But, in order to be eligible for the Road Warrior Individual awards, the wrestlers will need to compete in a minimum of 4 league tournaments throughout the year.
